Update: This small entryway makeover is complete! Click over here to see how it turned out!

Your entryway/foyer/mudroom is arguably the hardest-working room in the business firm, yet information technology is easy to overlook. Yous get used to shoes piling upwardly and mail taking over the table.

But imagine what a divergence information technology would be to walk in the door after a long mean solar day to a beautiful, organized archway that functions exactly how your family needs information technology to and that won't be an embarrassment when you invite company over.

Since we moved into this business firm 8 months ago, most of the time I've had to work on home projects has been focused on the nursery and general unpacking/organizing. But at present that the plant nursery is (near) complete and things are more or less performance alright, I'm broken-hearted to begin working on the chief floor. I love our open floor programme, but all of this banal beige and ho-hum builder everything could apply some color and personality!

Our Entry

Our business firm doesn't take much in the form of an official entryway, so I've designated this one pocket-size wall along our staircase as our entryway area. Our garage door and front door both open up up to this piddling area. Since this hallway has then few walls, I've been racking my brain trying to come upward with the best way to organize information technology.

There is (thankfully) a hall closet beyond from this wall and the residuum of the front of the house opens up into a front end room that I'm currently using as my role (and accept grand visions for improving eventually!). The petty hallway leads to the back of the firm where our great room is (kitchen/dining/living).

Here'southward a floor plan to help you get acclimated. I highlighted the "entry" expanse:

Until recently, this wall was a hot mess. I put this black bookshelf here when we moved in merely and then we had somewhere to drop keys and things, but obviously, it isn't the all-time piece of furniture for this wall. Sorry, manifestly the just photograph I took of the mess was the video from my Instagram stories a while back:

I knew from the starting time that I wanted a narrow panel table hither that would ameliorate use the length of the wall and wouldn't block the view from the forepart door to the dorsum of the house. I also needed to add some organizational systems to our entry for things like keys, mail and shoes.

Nosotros do have a small hall closet off this hallway which gives the states plenty space to shop coats and winter items. I would honey to add a better closet organizer in at that place down the road, but for information technology's working for us for now. So my main goal for this hallway is to create a driblet zone to continue things organized when we're always coming and going.

Design Programme

Since this wall is so small, I've decided to care for information technology like an accent wall and really requite it some personality and character. The residual of the walls on our master floor will eventually exist painted a lite gray or off-white, so I retrieve going night on this wall and adding board and crossbar will really make a statement and help ascertain the space.

I'm hoping to add a lot of architectural interest and graphic symbol to this house over time, and things like lath and batten and redoing the trim are a big component of that.

I also program to push button myself to incorporate more than colour in this house. Nix makes me happier than grays, dejection and whites and those will definitely be the foundational colors just like our last house.

But David has challenged me to go a little more bold with my color choices (he'd probably paint this wall brilliant red if it was up to him!) then I'1000 going to attempt to accept his tastes into account. Then although my navy blueish paint option may not exist much of a divergence from my usual designs, I am going to incorporate some small splashes of colour through artwork and accessories.

I shared some of my favorite narrow forest console tables for an entryway on the blog a while agone, and I ended up selecting this beautiful woods table. Information technology has a faux marble tiptop that looks surprisingly real and I dearest how it fits in our entry.

Those of you lot on Instagram have been a huge help to me in selecting a pigment color! I brought home 4 samples and ultimately decided to go with the darkest, Midnight Bluish by Behr. It's going to provide such a rich, dark contrast to the residual of the house and I honey how it looks with the brass mirror.

Paint colors from left to right (all Behr): Shipwreck, Deep Breath, Midnight Blue, Aspen Valley. Midnight Blue is the winner for our entry wall!

Although this is a small infinite and our cupboard provides a lot of the storage space nosotros demand, I will definitely be adding some functional elements to our entry. The table creates a groovy drop zone for keys, baskets and boxes underneath will store shoes and things and a few pretty hooks will provide an easy identify for guests to hang a jacket or bag.

Our plans aren't 100% withal, but I'thou actually hoping to work on the board and crossbar and paint this wall this coming weekend! Follow me on Instagram to see live updates in my stories (you tin can catch up on the entry makeover past watching my decorating stories on Instagram!).
